SoftMap Technologies Inc., the Canadian developer of GIS software, announces that it will offer on its website www.softmaptech.com the possibility to buy online at a low cost all the topographic maps of Canada at a scale of 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 in GeoTIFF format. SoftMap will be the only one to offer full coverage of Canada with raster maps.

Softmap GeoTIFF^TM is compatible with most geographic information systems (GIS) software.

SoftMap GeoTIFF^TM is a product that is sold in a package or individually. It is a numerically georeferenced cartographic data in GeoTIFF format that is compressed. It was obtained by the optical scanning of topographical maps.

SoftMap has developed the Topo50 Serie offering coverage of Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia with raster maps in SoftMap proprietary format. The full coverage of Canada with topographic maps in SoftMap format will also be available to be bought online.

SoftMap is accredited by Natural Resources Canada as distributor for topographic digital maps.

The next version of SoftMap software in Pro, Plus and Lite products will read GeoTIFF format maps. It will be available in the fall of 2002.
