The Print tool! Or
Why use the printing zone?

SoftMap 5 allows printing the maps in two ways: Print the map or Print a printing zone*. The printing zone has the advantage that it can be saved in the session so it's always available and you can reprint it. You can also modify its parameters and move it.

Create a printing zone

1. Select the option Create a printing zone printing zone.
2. Click on the map at the center of the area where you want to create the zone. This will open the window Printing parameters with inset.
3. Choose an Inset and give a Name to the printing zone.

Once accepted, the zone will be added under the Printing zone tab of the Session window. To make the limit visible, i.e. the printable coverage, check the box beside the name of the zone.

Printing zonePrint preview
To verify if the zone contains all the information you want, use the print preview. Go to the File menu; choose Print preview then Printing zone

Move a printing zoneMove a printing zone
It’s possible that the zone does not cover exactly the desired area. In this case, you can move it. Just select the zone with one of the selecting toolsselecting tools and move it to the desired location.

Modify a printing zone
To modify the printing zone parameters (name, scale, inset etc.) click on the zone name with the right mouse button and choose Properties…

Print problems?
If you have some problems to print especially large sizes, verify the printing resolution. More often than not, printing problems come from a high resolution that generate files too large for the printer.

*SoftMap Pro 5 also allows to print to a file.
