The download
is not operating properly.
What do I have to do?
Internet consists of multiple inter-connected networks,
between your computer and the server where the file
to download is, a whole series of incidents can come
to disturb the remote loading. Problem with your access
supplier, bad quality of your telephone line or your
connection, cut lines, broken down servers, overloaded
lines...
- the access remote network has its own parameter
of connection time limits. Choose Control
Panel == Internet Options
== Connections == Parameters
== Advanced and notch the automatic
parameter of disconnection or increase the time
of disconnection without activity.
- also your MODEM could hide a
disconnection parameter. Choose Control
panel == Modem == Properties
== Connections and look for the
option Disconnect if inactive during...
in the dialog box Call preferences.
If the download fails after several attempts, check
the following points:
- the quality of your Internet connection - if
your connection speed is slow, the required download
time will be longer and there is more risk that
the download will not be completed on the first
attempt;
- if your computer operates correctly, we advise
you to empty the cache of your navigator, remove
the files cookies and start again your Browser;
- ensure that you to have the last version of your
Browser. The installation of a new Browser can often
repairs the problem; moreover, the new Browser often
improves safety.
Here some useful addresses to download the last
versions of your Browser:
Internet
Explorer - Netscape
Navigator - America
Online - Firefox
NOTE: There are software allowing to resume the download
where it ended; among those there is MetaProducts
Download Express (www.metaproducts.com)
which is free.
Download problems with Netscape Communicator
The download does not install.
To avoid these problems, use Internet Explorer to
download the files.
Your download was stopped before the end:
- This problem is relatively frequent and results
from a problem of connection between your computer
and the server where the file originates. It is
often enough to try later.
If the problem persists after having retried
the download:
- the incomplete file is most
probably in Windows' file cache; Windows "remembers"
the file and doesn't even attempt to download it
again. Usually this is helpful, but when you have
a bad file, you need to intervene. Flush your Internet
Browser's cache (Internet Explorer users: Tools
-> Internet Options -> General
-> Delete Files under Temporary
Internet Files).
You cannot download files:
If you work in a Local Area Network,
see your network administrator. A proxy which blocks
and filters the downloads could be installed. Also
check the safety parameters of your Browser. If you
use a software to accelerate the downloads (FlashGet,
GetRight...) deactivate it and try again to download.
This kind of software is sometimes the source of the
problem.
