will be fully operational for 7 days. Try the different
tools, select your TopoWeb mapping service and navigate
on our maps: Internet link required.
*Only one 7 days period is allowed
for a given user.
the module is included and allows
data exchange with Garmin and Magellan GPS receivers
and with all receivers using NMEA 0183 v.2 protocol.
SoftMap GPS cannot transfer maps to your GPS receiver.

System Requirements
- An IBM-compatible microcomputer with a Pentium
II 233 processor (or higher).
- 128 megabytes (Mb) of random access memory.
- A minimum of 300 Mb of free space on your hard
drive.
- Windows version 2000, XP or Vista.
|
*No topo maps are included in
SoftMap 5. If you own SoftMap products, you will
be able to open them in SoftMap 5. If not, you will need
to buy a subscription to a TopoWeb service (see TopoWeb
Subscription).
|
- SoftMap 5 includes the main
functions of version 4: seamless navigation, printing,
search tools, etc.
- SoftMap 5 installs (installation
demo) beside SoftMap version 4, when
required, and restores the existing SoftMap data
on your computer: cartographic references, personal
database, SoftMap databases (place-names, addresses,
and metadata), and GPS databases.
- Languages: click to go directly
from English to French in the software.
- Check updates:
click in the Help menu to search for available
updates and access the download files.
- Activate map download: will
enable the display of the maps in the window as
the user navigates: requires a subscription to
TopoWeb and an Internet connection.
- Download speed: the maps are
available in high or low resolution to allow a
selection based on the download speed of the user.
- The Cache : saves the downloaded
maps on the hard drive for future display of the
same area.
- The installation of SoftMap 5
is completely automatic if you have an active
Internet connection: with your serial number,
the software will receive confirmation from the
server and install the registration key on your
computer. The installation can also be done via
fax or telephone.
- Major
differences with version 4 are related to
increased user-friendliness.
- SoftMap 5 replaces any possible
SoftMap Plus version 4 updates: all updates and
upgrades will not be added in version 4.
- SoftMap 5 is the only way to
install the GPS module from now on: if the GPS
module is not already activated in your version
4, you can no more install a key to unlock it:
you must buy and install SoftMap 5 whose price
is cheaper than the GPS module for version 4.
- SoftMap 5 can work off-line: the maps in the
Cache are available off-line as are the maps in
your SoftMap products on CD-ROM or on your hard
drive.

SoftMap 5 will enable you to use the maps in the different
SoftMap products in your Palm Powered TM or Pocket PC
device. Define the limits of the maps that you want to
upload in your PDA and view them with the PathAway 4 software
(sold separately). To use those
new functions, you need a Palm
PoweredTM or Pocket PC
device, the SoftMap 5
software and the software PathAway
4. The only limit as to the size of the
maps that you can transfer is the available memory of
your PDA. The maps are highly compressed and will take
little space in your handheld. For example, a map at the
1:50,000 scale covering 16 square kilometres will have
250 KB and a 4 square kilometres map at the 1:20,000 scale
will have 450 KB. This tool is the button
Upload to PDA.
